ABOUT THE HOSPITAL
The John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County serves as the public referral hospital for the 6 million residents of Cook County. We proudly stand as one of the last remaining public hospitals living a century-old mission of providing a comprehensive program of quality healthcare to all residents of Cook County regardless of their ability to pay.
Our new hospital opened in December 2002. The new hospital contains 470 beds including:

The John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Rush University Medical Center, the University of Illinois Medical Center, and the Jesse Brown Veterans Administration Hospital form one of the largest medical complexes in the world. Immediately west to Chicago’s University Village and Little Italy neighborhoods, residents can live just a few blocks away in a vibrant, friendly, and safe Chicago community.
