ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Cook County Health offers a fully accredited, competitive 3-year fellowship program in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Our program has a total of 9 fellows and the clinical training occurs mainly at John H. Storger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. Cook County Health has a rich tradition of providing high-quality care, research, and house-staff training. Providing high quality and compassionate care to all regardless of their ability to pay is at the heart of what we do. The mission of our program is to train outstanding clinical Pulmonary and Critical Care physicians by providing cutting-edge instruction, close clinical supervision, and mentorships in a diverse and rich clinical setting.

 

The aim of our fellowship is to provide a rigorous clinical curriculum set in a nurturing environment for trainees to acquire the knowledge and skills to excel as pulmonary and critical care physicians.

 

The following are some qualities that we aim to cultivate:

  1. Outstanding physicians that are highly competent in the delivery of pulmonary and critical care medicine particularly in a community setting.

  2. Scholars who understand the importance of contributing to the field of pulmonary and critical care medicine through participation in scholarly activity and quality improvement.

  3. Experts who promote a culture of safety and the delivery of quality medicine through a focus on interdisciplinary quality improvement projects.

  4. Lifelong learners who promote a culture of inquiry and learning.

  5. Leaders in the field of clinical Pulmonary and Critical Medicine through involvement in professional societies.

  6. Physicians that understand the challenges faced by the underserved population and in turn understand the challenges that as a system we face to deliver high-quality medical care.
